CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST: Mary Ellen Sternitzke PhD

Our READING RESCUE program addresses underlying neuro-psychological difficulties that interfere with a youth's reading mechanics, speed and comprehension. Our program combines a variety of evidence based treatments for underlying motor, perceptual, attention, memory and executive functions. Each child receives an individualized assessment to determine their own best treatment plan. Although your child might think she is playing games and making friends, she is actually improving her executive functions and building vocabulary that contribute to stronger reading skills.

In the summer, we offer daily sessions, Monday through Thursday, morning or afternoon. During the school year, the program is held in after-school sessions and half-day workshops on Early Release days, in which your child is encouraged to bring his homework and continue building reading skills and confidence.

BEYOND 20/20 offers real solutions for unresolved vision problems including: convergence insufficiency and other visual challenges, amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (eye turn), focusing (accommodative disorder), and tracking (ocular motor dysfunction), low vision problems, computer vision syndrome and headaches, sports vision treatments and therapies, vision problems from brain injury and stroke, visual perceptual difficulties (spatial and processing), general adult optometric care and contacts and glasses. Beyond 20/20 proudly servers Cheyenne, WY and our surrounding areas of Wheatland, Torrington, Kimball, Scottsbluff, Alliance, and Sidney.

While BEYOND 20/20 works with all children’s vision problems, our special interest is visual spatial, visual perceptual or visual processing problems. The brain controls these areas of visual functioning rather than the eyes. It’s possible, for example, for your child to have 20/20 vision and still experience problems that interfere with reading and learning.
